Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of I Dissent comes a biographical graphic novel about celebrated Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg。

Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a modern feminist icon—a leader in the fight for equal treatment of girls and women in society and the workplace。 She blazed trails to the peaks of the male-centric worlds of education and law, where women had rarely risen before。

Ruth Bader Ginsburg has often said that true and lasting change in society and law is accomplished slowly, one step at a time。 This is how she has evolved, too。 Step by step, the shy little girl became a child who questioned unfairness, who became a student who persisted despite obstacles, who became an advocate who resisted injustice, who became a judge who revered the rule of law, who became…RBG。

This was a middle grade graphic memoir, and before this, I've never read a middle grade book or a graphic novel。 I was thoroughly impressed。 Not only was this fun to read, but it was also very informative。 This is a book that every young person should read and should definitely be in every middle grade classroom, but it can also be a beneficial read to any reader of any age。 If you want an overview of RBG and her life and legacy, I would highly recommend this, no matter your age。 This was a middle grade graphic memoir, and before this, I've never read a middle grade book or a graphic novel。 I was thoroughly impressed。 Not only was this fun to read, but it was also very informative。 This is a book that every young person should read and should definitely be in every middle grade classroom, but it can also be a beneficial read to any reader of any age。 If you want an overview of RBG and her life and legacy, I would highly recommend this, no matter your age。 。。。more

Seriously considering owning this book。 RBG is a trailblazer, carving her own path to achieve her goal of helping the helpless。 How did she do that?Graphic novels have the power to instill the stories in minds better。 Must read for every girl, woman and man。

I LOVED this graphic novel packed with information about Ruth Bader Ginsburg。 It's a biography of her life and career, a really accessible way to get an overview of her tremendous life and impact。 It doesn't skim the surface of her accomplishments, you truly get a sense of her journey from childhood to the bench of the Supreme Court。 It's both entertaining and informational, even my teenage son found it to be really great reading! This story follows the life of Supreme court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg。 It starts with Ruth as a child and progresses through her life and major events in her life that shaped her to be the woman we knew。 It talks about her schooling, her journey as a professor, lawyer, and finally a judge, covering her most important cases as well as her personal life like her mother and husband who were both major influences on her。 This book is in the form of a graphic novel with cartoonish characters and a This story follows the life of Supreme court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg。 It starts with Ruth as a child and progresses through her life and major events in her life that shaped her to be the woman we knew。 It talks about her schooling, her journey as a professor, lawyer, and finally a judge, covering her most important cases as well as her personal life like her mother and husband who were both major influences on her。 This book is in the form of a graphic novel with cartoonish characters and a red white and blue color scheme。I really like how this book told the story of her in such an accessible way。 This is not a common format for nonfiction books, and I think that may encourage students to read it。 It is also very informative I learned so much about Ruth Bader Ginsburg through this book, and I imagine this would be the same way for children。This book would be great to use in a third-fifth grade classroom during Women's History Month because it talks about a very influential woman, some of her influences, and all the different things she did to further gender equality。 。。。more

I gotta say I am enjoying the non-fiction graphic "novel。" I felt like I learned so much about RBG that I didn't know and was able to complete in a day which sometimes you just want a quick read that teaches you things。 I gotta say I am enjoying the non-fiction graphic "novel。" I felt like I learned so much about RBG that I didn't know and was able to complete in a day which sometimes you just want a quick read that teaches you things。 。。。more

This graphic novel is an excellent way to learn about Ruth Bader Ginsburg。 Prior to reading this, I knew very little about RBG as she grew up。 I loved learning about her family, her school years, and her incredible career。 4/5 because I found the graphics a bit hard to follow at times; there wasn’t really a set way that each page was designed, and some pages had more information than others。 Which was fine, but to fit it all, sometimes the text bubbles would be too large for the graphic they wer This graphic novel is an excellent way to learn about Ruth Bader Ginsburg。 Prior to reading this, I knew very little about RBG as she grew up。 I loved learning about her family, her school years, and her incredible career。 4/5 because I found the graphics a bit hard to follow at times; there wasn’t really a set way that each page was designed, and some pages had more information than others。 Which was fine, but to fit it all, sometimes the text bubbles would be too large for the graphic they were associated with, and it wasn’t always clear the order to read the text in when that happened。But the story was excellent, the graphics were well done, and it was a quick read。 I definitely recommend this book。 。。。more

This is an outstanding and surprisingly comprehensive overview of Ginsburg’s life, and definitely not just for kids。 I checked this out thinking it was a standard picture book, and what I got was an extremely well done graphic biography packed with tons of information about not just RBG but about the way the world was (and often still is) for women before she came on the scene and was instrumental in challenging/changing so much。 It’s the perfect combination of informative and accessible, and th This is an outstanding and surprisingly comprehensive overview of Ginsburg’s life, and definitely not just for kids。 I checked this out thinking it was a standard picture book, and what I got was an extremely well done graphic biography packed with tons of information about not just RBG but about the way the world was (and often still is) for women before she came on the scene and was instrumental in challenging/changing so much。 It’s the perfect combination of informative and accessible, and the illustrations serve it well。 Put this on your TBR lists, for sure。 (I heard somewhere that Ken Jennings studied for “Jeopardy” by reading children’s biographies, but were any of them as good as this? I’d love to get my hands on his list。) 。。。more

I have always known that RBG was great and fought for woman's rights, but didn't know in what way。 This book is an amazing biography of her life and helps the reader understand all that she did for women's and men's rights。 It didn't matter the gender, all she knew was that determining action based on a person's sex was not okay, and she fought it head-on。 The author and illustrator did a great job on this one。 I have always known that RBG was great and fought for woman's rights, but didn't know in what way。 This book is an amazing biography of her life and helps the reader understand all that she did for women's and men's rights。 It didn't matter the gender, all she knew was that determining action based on a person's sex was not okay, and she fought it head-on。 The author and illustrator did a great job on this one。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 (Note: Very minor spoiler in last paragraph)This is an interesting look at Ruth Bader Ginsburg's life and her rise to the US Supreme court。 It's meant to be an introduction for younger readers or older readers who want to get the quick and dirty story。My critique of this book, (and so many like it,) is that it doesn't present a balanced or rounded view of the issues。 Anecdotes from her childhood and early life are fine and set the stage for RBG and her later work。 But central to RBG's judicial p (Note: Very minor spoiler in last paragraph)This is an interesting look at Ruth Bader Ginsburg's life and her rise to the US Supreme court。 It's meant to be an introduction for younger readers or older readers who want to get the quick and dirty story。My critique of this book, (and so many like it,) is that it doesn't present a balanced or rounded view of the issues。 Anecdotes from her childhood and early life are fine and set the stage for RBG and her later work。 But central to RBG's judicial philosophy was her view that the Constitution is a living document whose words are subject to an evolving interpretation。 This is directly opposed to the philosophy of strict constructionists who believe that words mean the same thing today as they meant 200 years ago。The author presents RBG's philosophy as the true and correct one。 Depending on one's opinion, it may well be, but it's problematic if both sides are not presented。 There is no mention of the opposite philosophy。 There is no mention of "activist judges" or the judges becoming de facto unelected legislators。 The book could remain opposed to these opinions but at least explain, highlight and/or rebut them。 There is one esoteric rebuke of Robert Bork late in the book。 It's mentioned that RBG thought more of the law than an intellectual exercise。 This book is fine for savvy readers。 But the naïve and inexperienced should get something that is much better balanced。 I wouldn't call this propaganda but it's certainly not fair。 。。。more

This was a fun, informative read。 I actually learned a lot and it even held my 4 year old's attention for 50 pages non-stop。 They only mention her jabots once, which was a little djsappointing because I did want to learn more about her historic fashion statements, but I GUESS fashion isn't the MOST fascinating part of RBG。 This was a fun, informative read。 I actually learned a lot and it even held my 4 year old's attention for 50 pages non-stop。 They only mention her jabots once, which was a little djsappointing because I did want to learn more about her historic fashion statements, but I GUESS fashion isn't the MOST fascinating part of RBG。 。。。more

Graphic novel biography of Ruth Bader Ginsburg。 I loved the idea of this book, and was amazed at how much information it packed in。 I knew a little bit about RBG before reading this book, but didn't know her whole story - and I didn't know that she was responsible for a lot of the legal groundwork for gender equality。 I definitely highly recommend this book for adults as well as kids (probably middle school and up)。 Graphic novel biography of Ruth Bader Ginsburg。 I loved the idea of this book, and was amazed at how much information it packed in。 I knew a little bit about RBG before reading this book, but didn't know her whole story - and I didn't know that she was responsible for a lot of the legal groundwork for gender equality。 I definitely highly recommend this book for adults as well as kids (probably middle school and up)。 。。。more

A graphic novel about the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg who made gender equality her life's work。 It was very interesting, informative, and the illustrations were good。 Sometimes the "speech bubbles" and flow of the text was hard to follow。 A graphic novel about the life of Ruth Bader Ginsburg who made gender equality her life's work。 It was very interesting, informative, and the illustrations were good。 Sometimes the "speech bubbles" and flow of the text was hard to follow。 。。。more

The illustration style of this book really modernizes and enhances the way the story comes across。 I learned a lot from this book, but I did find some of the parts to be a little dry, especially for a children's book。 The illustration style of this book really modernizes and enhances the way the story comes across。 I learned a lot from this book, but I did find some of the parts to be a little dry, especially for a children's book。 。。。more

It's a book about How RBG became the person she is today。 It represents all the struggles on her day to day basis and shows life in her shoes。 She expressed the racism, sexism that occurred in her position。 How we fought through it。 She fought for equal treatment for girls and women in society。 It's a book about How RBG became the person she is today。 It represents all the struggles on her day to day basis and shows life in her shoes。 She expressed the racism, sexism that occurred in her position。 How we fought through it。 She fought for equal treatment for girls and women in society。 。。。more

This was amazing!!! I'm not a huge fan of graphic novels, but it was so good。 It was obviously aimed at kids (defining terms they might not know, etc) but super informative and a great story。 This was amazing!!! This is a great, concise version of RBG’s life and career。 It’s perfect for older kids and adults like me who aren’t particularly politics-savvy, but working on it。 😉 I am so sad we’ve lost such a wonderful person。
